ASTM A135 Grade A
ASTM A135 Grade A
ASTM A135 Grade A ERW steel pipes are designed to transport gas, vapor, water, or any other liquid; only ASTM A135 Grade A steel grade is designed for bending and flanging. The size, characteristics, and service conditions of this ERW pipe influence its suitability for diverse applications. It is mainly used for sprinkling pipes in fire fighting systems. At the manufacturer’s discretion, the pipe can be supplied non-expanded or cold expanded. When a pipe is cold expanded, the amount of expansion must not exceed 1.5 percent of the pipe’s outer diameter.

Manufacture & Heat Treatment of ASTM A135 Grade A
The steel must be produced using either the basic oxygen or electric furnace procedures. The steel can be cast as ingots or as strands. ASTM A135 Grade A ERW steel pipes, either Grade A or Grade B, are often manufactured in the modern industry using a high-frequency electric-resistance welding technique. The pipe should be made from flat-rolled steel (plate) in individual or continuous lengths by electric-resistance or electric-induction welding, with no extraneous material added. To put it simply, no filler metal is necessary.
Surface Appearance & End Preparation of ASTM A135 Grade A
ASTM A135 Grade A ERW steel pipes must be fairly straight and defect-free. Surface flaws of more than 12.5 percent of the nominal wall thickness must be avoided. The pipes might have a plain end, a beveled end, or a threaded end. ERW pipes supplied to SCH 10, in particular, should have a plain end only. All cutting burrs, both inside and outside, must be removed. Each length of threaded pipe must have one coupling for connecting purposes.
