Rectangular Hollow Section

A rectangular hollow section is a steel pipe with unequal side lengths. It is made of rolled strip steel after process treatment. Generally, the strip steel is unpacked, leveled, crimped, and welded to form a round pipe, then rolled into a rectangular pipe from the round pipe, and then cut into the required length.

Rectangular tubes can be divided into rectangular tubes for decoration, rectangular tubes for machine tool equipment, rectangular tubes for mechanical industry, rectangular tubes for the chemical industry, rectangular tubes for steel structure, rectangular tubes for shipbuilding, rectangular tubes for automobile, rectangular tubes for steel beams and columns and rectangular tubes for special purposes.

These tubes are made to give up weldability and for greater strength. Its size is ranging from 50mm x 25mm to 450mm x 250mm. The wall thickness of it is ranging from 2mm to 20mm in greater sections. The standard specification of the rectangular hollow sections is ASTM, ASME, DIN, JIS, EN, etc.

Application of Rectangular Hollow Section

Rectangular Hollow Section (RHS) has intrinsically flat surfaces, which makes joining and manufacturing cheaper. It is widely used in machinery manufacturing, construction industry, metallurgical industry, agricultural vehicles, agricultural greenhouses, automobile industry, railway, highway guardrail, container skeleton, furniture, decoration, and steel structure.

Appearance of Rectangular Hollow Section

The pipe’s external and inner surfaces must be smooth, devoid of fissures, cracks, material overlay, and non-metallic impurities. Small scratches, dents, a thin layer of welding cinder, or traces left after cleaning manufacturing flaws are permitted, as long as the wall thickness does not fall below the minimum authorized limitations. The weld shall be compact and continuous, and shall not have cracks or other defects that reduce the weld resistance under the resistance of the base metal.

The welding seam’s external ledge is eliminated. Thickening of the seam is acceptable within the range of authorized diameter restrictions. The welding seam’s inside burr is not eliminated. Unevenness on the metal strip’s borders in the welding seam is not permitted. The pipe’s ends must be cut perpendicular to its axis. It is permissible to have a burr on the pipe ends as a result of the cutting operation. Pipe end deformation is not permitted.

Delivery Conditions of Rectangular Hollow Section

After cold rolling, the steel plates are left untreated. On both the external and internal surfaces, emulsion tracks and tiny oxidation tracks may emerge. On the external surfaces of the sections, an oil coating provides provisional corrosion protection. On request, one may withdraw this form of protection.
