AS/NZS 1163
AS/NZS 1163 is the Australian standard for cold-formed structural steel hollow sections. This Standard specifies the technical requirements for cold-formed steel hollow sections for structural purposes in the six welding-compatible steel grades. AS/NZS 1163 specifies the requirements for the manufacture and supply of cold-formed, electric resistance-welded steel hollow sections for structural applications. It takes into account three strength grades that are suitable for welding, with or without impact properties. This Standard applies to structural hollow sections that are formed cold and do not require subsequent heat treatment. This Standard is intended for structural and engineering applications in general. All of the grades specified in this Standard are suitable for welding by AS/NZS 1554, as well as fastening by AS 3990, AS 4100, AS/NZS 4600, AS 5100.6, and NZS 3404.

Steel Grade of AS/NZS 1163 Pipe
The grade designation (for example, C250) is based on the steel’s nominal minimum yield strength (in MPa). To indicate that the section is cold-formed, the prefix ‘C’ is used before the value of the nominal yield strength of the steel. AS 1163 only takes into account cold-formed structural steel hollow sections. As specified in AS 1163, the suffix ‘L0’ denotes impact properties at 0°C.

AS/NZS 1163 is subject to tensile testing in accordance with AS 1391, Charpy impact test in accordance with AS 1544.
