EN 10219
EN 10219
The European Norm EN 10219 regulates requirements for cold-formed welded structural pipes made of non-alloy and fine-grain steels without heat treatment. These requirements include dimensions, shapes, delivery conditions, and permissible deviations from dimensional and form tolerances, as well as mechanical property requirements. The standard applies to welded pipes used for the construction of steel structures and for the general purpose of civil engineering, including pipework for the transportation of fluid and other media. This standard also applies to welded pipes used in the construction of pipelines for the transportation of fluids such as oil, gas, and water. The standard is also applicable to welded pipes used in the construction of process piping, power piping, and ductwork. Part 1 includes the technical delivery conditions of EN 10219 structural pipes, and part 2 specifies the tolerance, dimensions and sectional properties of these pipes.

Steel Grade of EN 10219
– Designation for Non-alloy Steel Structural Hollow Sections:
- The number of this European Standard (EN 10219 specification);
- The capital letter S for structural steel;
- The indication of the minimum specified yield strength for thickness ≤16mm is expressed in N/mm2;
- The capital letters JR for the qualities with specified impact properties at room temperature;
- The capital letter J and a number 0 or 2 for the qualities with specified impact properties at 0℃ and -20℃ respectively;
- The capital letter H indicates hollow sections
– Example with EN 10219 S275JOH:
- EN 10219 – Number of the European Standard
- S – Structural steel
- 275 – Minimum yield strength (N/mm2) for thickness not greater than 16mm
- J0 – Impact properties, 27J minimum at 0℃
- H – Hollow section
Weldability of EN 10219 Pipe
Weldable steels are specified in this European standard. EN 1011-1 and EN 1011-2 specify the main standards for welding products under this European standard.
When welding these products, the greatest danger is the development of cold cracking in the welded zone as the product thickness, strength level, and CEV rise. Cold cracking is a result of a combination of the following factors:
- elevated diffusible hydrogen levels in the weld metal;
- a brittle structure in the heat-affected zone;
- and large tensile stress concentrations in the welded joint
